Aled Jones is Director of the Global Sustainability Institute (GSI) at Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge UK. His research focuses on risks and opportunities in finance and the geopolitics of global resource trends such as food, energy, and biodiversity.
Lara Houston is a social scientist, and Senior Research Fellow at the GSI, who investigates sustainability through grassroots, citizen-led practices. She studies how citizens create alternative ways of producing knowledge – particularly when they are excluded or marginalised from large-scale institutions. She has been working with more-than-human governance methods since 2019, in the Algorithmic Food Justice project.
Ruth Catlow is co-founder of Furtherfield, a centre for arts, technology and eco-social change tat has been running since 1996. She has been working with more-than-human methods since 2019, and specialises in producing more-than-human live-action role-plays, working with researchers on scenarios, and producing multi-year immersive artworks for the public: Treaty of Finsbury Park.
Gareth Chapman is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the GSI, and was recently awarded his PhD in critical accounting, specialising in sea-bed mining in the Cook Islands.
The Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA) is the UK’s only chartered professional body dedicated to educating, developing, and regulating actuaries based both in the UK and internationally. The IFoA regulates and represents over 34,000 members worldwide.
The IFoA Biodiversity Working Party explores issues arising for actuaries from the unprecedented rate of biodiversity loss (i.e. mass extinction), contributing to an increasing amount of work focusing on how business and government decision-making can account for biodiversity through concepts such as natural capital, and other forms of valuation.
Our project is kindly funded by the V. Kann Rasmussen Foundation, under their ‘Nature-Centrism as a Lens for Organizational Behavior and Decision-Making’ call of Spring 2025.
